Wednesday Night Wine- Bogle 2008 Petite Sirah

Wednesday Night Wine- Bogle 2008 Petite Sirah

Continuing my journey through some of California’s best Petite Sirahs, I was a bit skeptical when a bottle of Bogle Vineyard’s 2008 Petite Sirah arrived.  It has a suggested retail price of $11 and, after some searching, I found it readily available for $9-10 a bottle.  In the past, I haven’t been find too many Petite Sirahs that deliver for under $15-20.  I was really hoping that Bogle would prove me wrong because I would love to find a Petite Sirah that is readily available and that fits everyone’s mid-week wine budget.

About the Wine- From the Winery

Bogle Vineyards has been producing Petite Sirah since 1978 and this vintage comes from their vineyards in Clarksburg and Lodi.  The wine is 100% Petite Sirah with 13.5% alcohol content.  The wine was harvested in September and October of 2008 and released June 2010. (For more info visit )

Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine

The Bogle pours a very deep, dark purple.  The nose has sweet aromas of blackberries, boysenberries, and a hint of oak.  The wine has a nice balance from the open of the bottle.  This is full-bodied Petite Sirah with nice acidity.  On the palate are tastes of boysenberries and a hint of vanilla with soft tannins and a nice spicy oak finish.  The Bogle 2008 Petite Sirah really exceeded my expectations.  This is a fantastic wine for $11 and it will not disappoint.  I recommend you head out to your local wine shop or grocery store and grab a bottle to enjoy tonight!
