A couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to meet Megan Glaab of Ryme Cellars and taste through some of Ryme’s current releases. It was a wonderful experience as I pretty much fell in love with each of the wines.
The standout of the tasting for both Brandon and I was Ryme’s 2012 “Hers” Vermentino. The wine has a pretty cool story behind it as well. Megan and her husband Ryan are the winemakers and owners behind the label and they generally agree on the style of wines they produce. When it comes to their Vermentino, they agreed to disagree and release both a “His” and “Hers” version. The “His” Vermentino (which is pretty awesome as well) had about 2 weeks of skin contact, which makes it an orange wine. The “Hers” Vermentino is made without skin contact and really captivated my palate.
100% Vermentino from the Las Brisas Vineyard in Carneros. Whole cluster pressed and aged in neutral barrels and stainless steel. Unfined and unfiltered. 11.2% alcohol and offered at $24/bottle.
Beautiful aromas of white peach and pear with floral undertones. The palate is bright with lively acidity, crisp fruit, and a clean finish. I could easily sip this wine with a variety of shellfish and other seafood. Definitely among the top white wines coming out of California in my book!
