The second Greek wine I tasted over the weekend was Canava Roussos Vinsanto Santorini, a dessert wine. We uncorked the bottle after dinner and it made for a sweet finish to our meal!
About the Wine- From the Winery
Canava Roussos Vinsanto Santorini 2006 is a blend of Asyrtiko, Athiri, and Aidani from the Santorini region of Greece. It has 11.5% alcohol and retails for around $18. For more information visit www.canavaroussos.com.
Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine
This sweet wine pours a burnt amber color in the glass. It has a bouquet of raisins and figs with a hint of caramel. The palate is sweet but not overbearing. There are tastes of caramel, fig, and citrus. The citrus notes do a great job of balancing the sweetness of the wine. A nice way to end a meal!
My Wine Rating- B
Food Pairing Suggestions- Sip on its own after a meal or pair with dark chocolate or a fruit plate.
