This week I am exploring a few wines from Greece. The first wine featured is Gavalas Winery Santorini 2011. I was super excited to try this dry white wine from a region I have had so little experience with!
About the Wine- From the Winery
Gavalas Winery 2011 Santorini is a blend of 90% Assyrtiko and 10% Aidani from the Santorini region of Greece. It has 13% alcohol and retails for around $16. For more information visit www.gavalaswines.gr.
Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine
Gavalas Winery Santorini 2011 pours a brilliant golden-yellow color in the glass. Aromas of citrus and pear dominate the nose. The palate is balanced and slightly creamy with tastes of lemon and pineapple. A healthy dose of acidity elevates the finish. A really nice wine from an intriguing wine region!
My Wine Rating- B+
Food Pairing Suggestions- Pair with shrimp, sea bass, or a salad with grilled vegetables and lemon caper dressing.
