Weekend Wine and Food Pairing- S’mores and Tawny Port!

An essential part of a Southern California summer is a bonfire.  We have gloriously beautiful days and slightly chilly nights so, after a long day at the beach, we had over to a fire pit in the sand.  Of course we roast hot dogs and corn on the cob over the fire but my favorite summer bonfire fare is a warm, gooey s’more!

There are plenty of wines that pair well with s’mores but the best match I have found is Tawny Port.  One Tawny Port I really enjoy is Churchill’s 10 Years Old Tawny Port.  I think the nut, caramel, and fig flavors in the wine go really well graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate.  Plus this port offers a great value for the price ($30).  So get to the nearest bonfire (a grill will work too!) and try out this pairing.  It is a summertime classic!
