Earth and Spice- Santa Barbara Collection 2010 Pinot Noir

Last week, I received a couple of bottles of wine from Santa Barbara Collection Wines.  I wasn’t familiar with the winery so I did a little research.  I found out that they are an up and coming winery who, at this point, exclusively produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  I uncorked a 2010 Pinot Noir from their North Canyon vineyard (which benefits from the cooling effects of the Pacific Ocean) and was pleasantly surprised.

Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine

Santa Barbara Collection Pinot Noir has a musty nose with aromas of red cherries, vanilla, and spice.  The palate is driven by tastes of spicy, red fruit.  Flavors of strawberries and cherries are enveloped with vanilla.  This earthy wine has a spicy finale with lingering hints of cherry.  A pleasant, food friendly wine from an underappreciated wine region!
