Trader Joe’s Wine Pick- Francis Ford Coppola Rosso 2009

I haven’t featured a wine from Trader Joe’s in a while…not that I haven’t tried any new bottles, but I haven’t been finding wines that both are a great value and taste amazing.  That all changed last weekend when I grabbed a bottle of Francis Ford Coppola Rosso to pair with a homemade pizza.

About the Wine- From the Winery

Francis Ford Coppola Rosso 2009 is a blend of 26% Cabernet, 26% Petite Sirah, 25% Syrah, and 23% Zinfandel from different regions of CA.  It has 13.5% alcohol and retails for $7.99.  For more information see

Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine

Francis Ford Coppola Rosso pours a deep plum in the glass.  The nose has notes of bright, dark fruit, oak, and spice.  The palate is exploding with flavors of ripe blackberries, plum, cherries, and cranberries.  The wine has a rich, full mouthfeel and ends with a smooth and spicy finish.  A great value that paired amazingly with our pizza!

My Wine Rating- B+

Food Pairing Suggestions- This wine pairs perfectly with casual fare such as pizza, burgers, or a grilled sirloin.

  1. Coppola Winery is just a few miles from my house. It’s a cool place to visit and their restaurant serves up some good food. If you get the green olives as an appetizer, you will not be disappointed.

I had no idea they sold their wine at Trader Joes, though.

  2. To be honest, I have yet to actually find a wine that I like at Trader Joe’s. I’m glad you found one to your liking because now I know which one to go for!
