The Perfect Italian Food Companion- Quattro Leoni 2008 Barbera D’Asti

When I drink Barbera, I often dream about being in Italy, sipping the glass at a small, picturesque cafe in Rome.  Barbera is a juicy Italian wine that I regularly seek out when I go to Italian restaurants.  It’s a great, everyday, Italian red…generally delivering a nice wine for a reasonable price.  While I still haven’t had a chance to have a glass in Rome, I am really enjoying this bottle in beautiful South Orange County.

About the Wine- From The Winery

Now The Fun Part- Tasting the Wine

This Barbera pours a deep garnet in the glass.  The nose draws you in with aromas of spicy plum, blackberry, and leather.  Tastes of juicy plums and cherries are surrounded with earthy tannins.  The finish is simple, smooth, and spicy.  A perfect wine for meaty, italian dishes.

My Wine Rating- B+

Food Pairing Suggestions- This Barbera pairs well with a meat lasagna, pizza with roasted red peppers and pepperoni, or osso bucco.
