Wednesday Wine Pick- 2009 Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley

This Memorial Day, I was roaming through Whole Foods (again) looking for a wine to bring to a BBQ.  I already was prepared with a bottle of Big Pink Rose but I wanted a nice Cabernet to compliment some of the meats we were grilling.  After scanning the Cabernet section a few dozen times, I grabbed a bottle that caught my attention from Chile…I was hoping it would please the crowds at its $10.99 price.

About the Wine- From the Winery

2009 Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Colchagua Valley in Chile.  It has 14% alcohol and retails for $10.99.  For more information see www.lafite.com

Now the Fun Part- Tasting the Wine

The Los Vascos pours a deep ruby.  The nose is full of dark fruit including blackberries and black currant with notes of spice.  The wine tastes of dark berries, black cherries, and a hint of black pepper.  This is a mild-mannered Cabernet but it is smooth (I would decant it for an hour or so if you have the chance) and easy to drink.  This is a great Cabernet for $10.99 and a great choice for summer grilling!

My Wine Rating- B/B+
