Cocobon 2009 California Red Wine

I was browsing the wine selection in Trader Joe’s today and an associate recommended I try the Cocobon 2009 California Red.  It was $6.99 for the bottle and he said it was pretty well received throughout the store.  The bottle refers to the wine as a rich and silky red table wine.  On the nose, the wine smells of sweet berries, vanilla, and plum.  At first sip, you immediately taste cherries and mild tannins with a little bit of cocoa.  It is not a very complex wine but it is pretty smooth and easy to drink.  It’s a little sweeter than I generally prefer, but for the price, it is a decent everyday wine.

Cocobon is definitely worth a sip or two, especially for $7 a bottle.  I think it would fair particularly well for people who aren’t into big reds or even tend to prefer whites.  If you have tried it, let me know what you think!

    1. Tried the wine last night….Good bottle for the money:) A bit sweet for my taste, but would buy it again when friends come over.

  1. My brother-in-law in Northern Virginia turned us on to Cocobon in 2010 at Christmas. He discovered it at Trader Joe’s. We enjoy zins and cabs and Cocobon often shows up at our dinner table on weeknights. It’s a bit sweet and has a lot of vanilla in the aroma, and overall we find it goes well with everything from home-made pizza to spicy Indian food to hearty pasta. It’s a nice daily drinker. Every time we have taken it to a party of average wine drinkers here in Silicon Valley, not super wine enthusiasts, it’s always a crowd pleaser. For the money (US$7.00) it’s sure to make many people happy at your next event.

    1. Glad you found it…it really is easy to drink. Let me know if you find any other great wine bargains! Cheers!
